Case Study: Part Redesign

The baseline part design attaches to the back of the seat with three welded studs (left). The picture to the right shows the total displacement performance under a vertical load for the original part design.

The figure below shows the original design with a vertical load of 300 lbf and total displacement. Notice the buckling at the center of the part.

Compare the previous design to the new design, also with a vertical load of 300 lbf and total displacement . Notice how the part no longer buckles at the center.
